How GPS Sales Will Grow

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

According to tech trends forecasters and in reference to the economic projections for 2009, GPS sales are believed to enter a flat evolution rate for the coming period. The entire electronics sectors has been affected by the financial crisis, yet, GPS sales are still positive, although not ascending, given the consumer’s lower purchase capacity. It seems that the preference goes for the touchscreen GPS smartphones, ambitious products that have changed the technological face of communications. The rest of the personal navigation devices will remain moderate in demand, and manufacturers should be happy that the GPS sales continue to be profitable.

GPS devices make good assets to purchase because until very recently only a limited number of people used them for traveling. The difficulty to go through crowded city traffic, the need to save time and stay relaxed when going on vacation by car, the sheer pleasure of having a high-tech device on the dashboard, these could be enough reasons to justify the level of GPS sales. Many users are attracted by items that are both money wise and innovative, and manufacturing companies can no longer afford to set too high prices for their models for fear of discouraging GPS sales and risking financial loss.

The quality of personal navigation definitely improves thanks to the implementation of the GPS technology. Studies indicate that people who use the Geographic Positioning System enjoy lower fuel consume, travel more efficiently and are less tired by driving. The GPS sales now explain the decrease of the distances driven per year and lead to considerable annual savings. The ultimate device for traffic detection and quality routine or non-routine trips is the GPS with traffic detection: use it and you will see the difference. Moreover, unfamiliar destinations no longer require pre-journey preparations.

All in all, on the background of positive statistics, GPS sales should be encouraged, and more consumers will invest in such navigation devices every year. International brands have the largest GPS sales because they are competitive and combine high quality with price accessibility: Garmin, Magellan, TomTom or Mio make a difference. Even if you feel like investing as little as possible into a Global Positioning System receiver, it is still important to check the features, and see how user friendly it is. And the best way to decide is by comparison of different models.

2010 To Have More 50 Androids

Android may have a promising future, it still has a difficult competition from Symbian and Apple (applications). It is well known Android got its initial push from cell phone manufacturing and application developers, and has a long way to go to get to the actual market of mobile phone users.  But things may look much easier in the coming year in 2010 as a number of android-powered handsets are set to be brought to the market.

This year, 2009, 10 Android devices were launched in the market and in 2010 about 50 Android devices are going to be launched by different companies. 50 looks like a good number.

Take A Look Below At a Quick List of Expected Android devices in the year 2010:

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 may be out in the first few months in 2010.

Sony Ericsson too may introduce Android devices.

Acer and HTC will also launch five to six Android devices early in 2010.

Once Droid does well, Motorola will also join the club and launch a few Android mobiles (if you didn’t know, Motorola Droid has recently been awarded the Times Gadget award and device of the year award- which makes Droid look doing well). So the list has Acer, Sony Ericsson (SE), Motorola and HTC.

And if the Google cell phone really happens (the supposedly picture of it has already been leaked out), we will see yet another Android supporter. Early this year Samsung had held that it would bring out Android phones for less than $ 100 in 2010. With so many Android phones in the market, the prices of these are surely going to go down to a some extent.

Well, 2010 seems to store some good thingsa lot for the mobile phone market and its users; also for Android as 2009 was a year with many highs and lows. But let’s wait and watch if all turns out to be true .

How the Palm GPS Works

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

A Palm GPS has the advantage of being able to increase the capacity of the personal navigation system by substituting the graphic display device and offering supplementary portable orientation functions. Regular products in the Palm GPS category have larger displays, more memory space and a quicker processing rate. The Palm thus ranges between a stand alone GPS unit and a device that needs computer or laptop connection. The combination of Palm and GPS enjoys worldwide appreciation particularly among hikers. Some softwares are not compatible with GPS devices even if they incorporate a navigation system.

You should be aware of such differences before buying something really cheap. A new Palm GPS version runs on special softwares with hardware advantages such as color screens. A good GPS brand is a clear guarantee of quality, but even so, you should check and test the features to make sure it suits your needs. For older Palm models that use serial ports, a special adaptation to the GPS device will be necessary but the procedure is neither difficult nor costly. There should also be good memory support for the maps on the Palm GPS and good hardware configurations are the best solutions available here. The eventual incompatibilities can be noticed when checking for the software support.

Changes are sometimes necessary for the software used by the Palm GPS application. Vendors usually allow for convincing verifications, but in case you are not satisfied, it would be hard to analyze a Palm GPS compatibility without professional assistance. All categories of car travelers and hikers can rely on a Palm GPS for personal navigation any time. The easy navigation conditions and access to real time information are the elements that convince many people to combine a Palm and a GPS unit.

Finally, older users of Palm GPS versions should inquire about the possibility to make updates and improve the technical performance of the items. This is sometimes only partly possible because of the specificity of the Palm and the compatibility of the GPS model with the updates. Usually, manufacturers take into consideration this issue of compatibility with older designs every time they launch a new model, but adaptations are not always possible, and you may have to buy a new Palm GPS rather than update the older system.

Your Next GPS Unit

GPS products and accessories make traveling efficient, pleasant and safe. Since there are so many devices available, buying the right GPS system should not be taken lightly, as it requires the comparison of lots of GPS products. You can only call it a good purchase if you have made a comprehensive GPS auto comparison and have analyzed all the items that may or may not correspond to your navigational needs. Among the widely available GPS products we ought to mention PDAs, GPS receivers that integrate in the dashboard, GPS receivers that stick to the wind shield or hand-held devices.

There are many features that GPS receivers share, but design is the element that distinguishes between different GPS products. First of all, they all depend on a clear sky view to operate, then, the voice announcement feature is present with almost all models, even if there is graphic display too. Monitors, antennas, batteries, car power adapters and memory cards are other important elements included and shared by most GPS products. As for the best GPS products classified by manufacturer, Magellan, TomTom and Garmin are the brand names of international reputation.

The GPS products provided by these top producers no longer pose problems of system choice but rather of feature choice. Comparisons prove unnecessary beyond a certain quality standard~In fact, with high-quality standards, there is no longer necessary to make comparisons; hence, you just have to make up your mind about how you are going to use the GPS features you have available. Top notch GPS products differ in the number of functions not in quality terms. You will probably get two or three more features with a product as compared with the competition. Test how the GPS products work, and run the test again right after the purchase.

There are rare cases when the GPS products do not work as expected; when this is the case you should use the return policy and get a new product as a replacement. The problem is that GPS receivers are very intricate devices with lots of circuits, and something may not be in the right place thus causing a malfunction. In order to see whether the device works properly, go through all the features in the shop and then buy it. Also check the warranty conditions and the usage instructions so that the transaction may be really advantageous.

Samsung Corby TXT Goes The BlackBerry Way

BlackBerry undoubtedly is the best business phone. And now Samsung tried to copy Blackberry’s best feature - the black keypad. Yes, the Samsung Corby that came to market a while ago became popular among youth for its trendy design . The new Samsung Corby TXT again is a fashionable phone targeted towards the youth, but is slightly different from other fancy touch screen mobile phones.

What’s New In Samsung Corby TXT?

Corby TXT has a keypad similar to that of the BlackBerry phone. Wait, nothing great about it - the QWERTY keypad is pesky. People who have used the keypad confirm the same; read this - Hands-on With The Samsung Corby TXT: Quick Review.

Below Are] A Few Features Of Samsung Corby TXT Cell Phone:

•    GSM / EDGE / GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
•    Corby TXT has 2 megapixel camera
•    Has 40mb internal memory + MicroSD card
•    Mini USB port
•    FM Radio
•    80 mAh battery
•    Weight: 94 gms

Along with the above features, Corby TXT also has 3.5 mm audio jack, an okay camera, FM radio, and great looks. The cost of a Corby TXT is Rs. 8000.

Corby phones have always done well in the market. In fact Samsung recently accepted that out of 50 million touch screen mobile phones that it has traded, 40 millions sales happen to be the in 2009 alone.

Perhaps, if the QWERTY keypad of the phone worked fine, and didn’t pose a problem to type, this Samsung cell phone would have been a suggested to buy. But what good is a phone that would leave you irritated every time you got around to typing out something. Also, the Nokia 5230/5530 series which in many ways is closer to the Samsung Corby phones would be out in the market soon. So that puts prospects thinking if they should go with the Corby phone or wait for Nokia to launch its new cell phones.

Buying GPS Devices

In the age of technology, asking for directions seems like history thanks to the invention of the GPS mobile receivers. People know try to shop wisely and get a good GPS deal to benefit from an individual mobility unit. The best idea to get a GPS deal is to find some GPS coupons, which, although valid for a limited period of time, could save you quite a lot of money. Normally, sales are the right occasions to get a bargain, and you should look for names like Garmin, Maestro, Magellan or TomTom.

We can also call it a good GPS deal when for an average price you get the GPS unit and some accessories. Windshield and dash mount, cables, wrist straps, belt clips, weatherproof coverings, spare batteries and data cards are the most wanted items. The thing is that the need for accessories varies from person to person, and is greatly influenced by the activity for which you purchase the GPS device. If you need the receiver for outdoor activities like cycling or hiking, a waterproof design and spare batteries are vital. It is therefore normal to try and make a GPS deal that corresponds to the usage specificity.

The efficiency of the GPS receiver depends on the data cards; these devices are the storage location for all the maps and the information specific to the region or country you choose. A great GPS deal is when you get blank memory cards together with the device so that you can decide which maps to upload. While some shoppers prefer blank memory cards others will specifically look for pre-installed ones to save them the trouble of uploading and managing the software; therefore, the very idea of GPS deal is different for every individual.

Let’s not forget about the car power adapter and the spare batteries that we’ve mentioned above, as they can be very handy where the GPS device runs out of power. You should also know that there are areas where the satellite connection can be lost, and for such cases the use of the antenna kits may prove essential. Therefore, you may pay a bit more for a system that contains an antenna kit for inside-of-vehicle access, but it is surely a good GPS deal if you manage to anticipate and prevent unwanted situations.

Never Get Lost Again`

How to get to a destination by car? Designed to help with navigation of more complex systems such as aircrafts, GPS devices match all the needs of a traveler. In the situation of GPS for cars, the receiver decodes a satellite signal and based on it, the location of the car is determined. There is a great diversity in terms of GPS design, features and formats, so that you may be as keen on details as you like. You save money with some cheap GPS units, they are easy to plug in and store, but the operation may be faulty or inconsistent. More money means more quality.

Car design is very important when shopping for a personal navigation system. Some models of GPS for cars include monitors for map display, but the presence of the monitor on the dashboard could be uncomfortable with some car designs. The air vents should remain clear, and the view from the passenger seat should not be a problem. For maximum of convenience and efficiency, the GPS for cars have to be selected as a good dashboard match.

Multiple features! This is one other important criterion of choosing GPS for cars. There are people who prefer to have several ways available to get information on how to reach destination. You can navigate with some GPS receivers by selecting the data from a personal address book, others take the location directly from the map, while others can operate by intersection or directly by address. Moreover, in the same direction, you should buy a GPS for cars with features for both graphical and vocal directions. Besides verbal directions, the GPS monitor displays arrows to indicate the direction, determines the position of the car as related to the destination and shows the name of the street.

Details on hotels, restaurants, ATMs, airports and lots of other sites are available with good GPS for cars. Such a complex device may seem a bit more expensive, but when you travel a lot and need to go from place to place, information is crucial. Moreover, the GPS device can get updates on the points-of-interest specific to a certain geographical area. Given the multitude of features, it may seem hard to find the right GPS for cars. The best way to sort things out is by going to a retailer that has demo units in-store so that you can check how the system works for yourself. Then, the features of a GPS unit will be a lot easier to appreciate!

Sony Ericsson’s Satio And Aino Doing Badly

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Sony Ericsson seems to be having real hard times. After all the news of Aino (priced EUR 420 [US $ 620]) being facing problems with some touchscreen problem (Though Sony Ericsson says Aino issue was a media rumor and states that Aino has been doing perfectly), now it’s the Sony Ericsson Satio (it was previously called Idou). Satio seems to have affected with software bug issue. Like Aino, Satio too is taken off the sale. Incidentally, Satio and Aino were introduced at the same time; and looks like they are both sailing in the same boat. SE though, along with Carphone Warehouse, is reluctant to accept the fact that Satio and Aino have been pulled off the market. You may read more about the Aino issue in detail here- Sony Ericsson Runs Into Trouble With Touchscreen Issue On Aino.

Although Sony Ericsson denies the fact that there is any serious problem, it has brought out a firmware to fix the bug and also speed up the process. However, the new firmware is released only in some parts out of all Satio markets.

People who have used this firmware are happy as the firmware solved the problem (the bug). But again, this is applicable to certain section of Satio users who have been made available this firmware.

The firmware not available to all Satio user sounds a quite strange as this may lead to Sony Ericsson’s popularity going down (the drop in the Sony Ericsson cell phone sales already indicate that)

The Satio cell phone is one that is on the expensive side (with a high price tag of EUR 550 [US $ 800]), but now looks like it may cost people and Sony Ericsson more than a fortune.  With both much-talked about cell phones not living up to customer’s expectations, and being not on sale can cause Sony Ericsson a good deal of loss.

Google May Introduce Google Cell Phone

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Google rarely goes out of news. And why not? After all Google has become an inseparable part of all techie’s lives. Sometimes it seems with Google applications not around all our work will come to a standstill. It sure will. Think of Gmail undergoing a crash. Or Google chat not working…or google docs getting stuck…I don’t know about yours, but my work surely will suffer a good amount of loss.

There has been a lot of speculation about what the Google cell phone would be like or will Google actually bring out a cell phone of its own? Recent reports say Google, if at all ever launches a cell phone, will not come out with a regular cell phone. It may be a VOIP device with unlimited calling powered by Google Voice or some other application similar to that.

Although Google has been saying No to such news, rumors still keep originating every now and then (may be because of the keen interest Google has been showing in the cell phone industry) . Also, a lot of people in the past have rubbished such rumors saying Google, being a brand of software applications, it is highly uncertain that Google may get into the hardware area. Rather it will try to foster its position in software section itself. Even if it gets, it will not be a thorough move into Hardware, instead it may collaborate with cell phone manufacturers.

I may be too naïve to comment on this subject. You should perhaps want to read from the experts who will give you a better insight into the Google cell phone news. You may have a look at this post More Rumors On The Google Phone, Data Only.

But until the so called Google cell phoneis actually out in the market every thing will remain rumour.

The Evolution of 3G

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Brought to you by cheap used Apple laptops.

3G is beginning to be standardized because more and more users want to know whether their connectivity is within optimal range. Various tools and options are being featured by various manufacturers all over the world. Perhaps in a few years, individuals will get to experience higher capacities and better efficiency in the form of 4G. Here are some more details about the standardization and what other nations have been up to lately.

The Progression

The standardization of Three G evolution is improving in both the 3GPP2 and 3 GPP. The related specifications of 3 GPP2 and 3 GPP developments are known as UMB and LTE, respectively. Qualcomm has cancelled developments on UMB in November 2008. 3G evolution applies a part that goes further than 3G technologies to boost the performance and functions, as well as create a smoother migration path for users.

There are various ways from 2G to 3 G. The main path begins in Europe from GSM once GPRS is added to a given system. From a given point, it is possible to be directed to the UMTS system. The system evolution in North America will begin from TDMA or Time division multiple access, change to EDGE or Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution or EDGE, then finally to UMTS.

The Others

A couple of 3G standards are being used and applied in Japan namely W-CDMA done by NTT DoCoMo. This is FOMA, which is attuned to UMTS, and Softbank Mobile which uses UMTS. CDMA2000, is used by KDDI. The transition for marketing reasons to 3G was finalized in Japan in 2006. 3 G, when first introduced in the form of UMTS and HSDPA technology was managed by SETAR in the Caribbean, particularly Aruba in December 2007. The network’s implementation phase was brought out by Alcatel-Lucent. SETAR also implemented a Three G network founded on CDMA 1X EV-DO dated April 2007.

The Networks

Broadband internet is not the only one that can be exploited using multi-megabits speeds. VOIP and video calling can also be done. HSDPA or high speed data packet access has capacities of taking 14.4 Mbit/s downstream, which is faster compared to majority of the standard lines. This is still faster compared to cities belonging to advanced and well-developed places. The capabilities of 5.8 Mbit/s uplink is above 10 times better than standard ADSL. It is also 7 times faster compared to the number one cable provider, Virgin Media.

Growing Networks

At present, there are about 400 3G and HSDPA networks all over the globe in one-fourth of the nations in the world. The migration of worldwide subscribers to 3G has already exceeded 15%, not to mention more than 35% among nations where 3G has been launched by the end of 2008. Several operators have launched fixed rate data plans and low cost plans for 3 G information use, leading to the increase in usage and reduced costs.

During the launch of 3.5G HSDPA, the technology is given as a movable broadband modem link for both laptop and desktop users. These are priced at the low end for consumer affordability. 3 G data can be quite pricey when roaming, with the average cost for every megabyte priced at around 10 dollars.

It will be very difficult to us several megabytes because of the undeveloped speeds that several networks give. You should assess and compare prices from different network providers first.
